Its just a 2 whistle affair to cook one pot sambar rice ;) Seriously……
INGREDIENTS: (serves
2)
- Rice (chawal) – ½ cup (washed
and soaked for 30min) (dho kar 30min bhigo dijiye)
- Tur dal (also known as arhar dal)- 1/4th cup (washed
and soaked for 30min) (dho kar 30min bhigo dijiye)
- Finely sliced onion (patle lambe katte pyaz)- 1 medium sized
- Mustard seeds (sarson dana)- ½ teaspoon
- Curry leaves (kaddi patta)- 3-4
- Red chilli powder (lal mirch pissi huyi)- 1/4th
teaspoon
- Coriander powder (sookha dhaniya pissa hua)- ½ teaspoon
- Turmeric powder (haldi pissi huyi)- ½ teaspoon
- Asafoetida (hing)- 1 pinch (chuttki bhar)
- Salt to taste (namak swaad anusar)
- Mustard oil heated till its color fades to transparent/ Refined
oil- 1 big spoon
- Tamarind paste(imli ka gudda)/ dry mango powder (aamchoor)- 1
teaspoon
- Water approx 2 and half cups
HOW TO MAKE:
- Take a cooker and heat oil. Add sarson daana and let it splutter,
then add hing, curry leaves and add onions and sauté till onion turns
little transparent.
- Then add haldi, red chili powder, dhaniya powder and mix well.
- Drain water and add rice and dal to the masala and mix well. Add
salt and water and close the lid. Cook on slow to medium flame and let 2
whistles come.
- Then switch off the flame and let its steam release of its own.
After 10minutes open the lid and check its consistency. It should be
little watery like sambar. You can add water if required.
- Then lastly add tamarind paste/ aamchoor powder and mix lightly
without mashing the rice. Bring to one boil on high flame and turn off the
flame.
Serve hot…… Simple
one pot Sambar Rice in 10-15min :) enjoy
